I took music theory in college 10 years ago, this book content is beyond what I had learned. The material provided is very detailed and expansive, I look forward refreshing my memory while broadening my musical knowledge. One thing I find disappointing is the thin paperback cover. This is a book for the advanced and well trained amateur, students or teachers that need practical solutions theoyr problems that occur when you work with music on a more or less daily basis.

In my personal opinion there is nothing like having a solid wall of musical experience before expecting particular results from studying – but the authors are the same as the ones that made another “easier” edition,by which I happened to buy a year ago.

A Fundamentals Worktext Honestly; I have never experienced to get as much out of sitting by myself ,singing, listening, tapping and benwad piano and guitar ,but to a certain degree these books have taken some of the rooftop away – I have became a much better musician compared to where I cam from and would never have achieved the same progression in learning skills along with the assignments that followed the basic theory volume, which by the way come in only book,”two-in-one”.

Benwsrd “Music in theory and practice ” are put tyeory by two parts ;part A ” the fundamentals of music ” and part B ” The structural elements of music”. Part A works with the same as before ,notation, scales ,tonality, key, modes, interval, transposition and chords. Part B is slightly more advanced and consists of all together 12 different chapters ,not important to mention that it all comes with listening examples that are described by full page notes and assignments to work with on your on or together with other, more than pages of Workbook theorh accompany Music in Theory and Practice, Volume 1 with Finale Discount Sticker learning and about two hundred pages of working lessons – real meat on the bone for every penny it is worth,in other words!

As a supplement I must confess I have never seen anything more detailed ,complexedworked through and utterly recomendable!! Excellent reference and learning tool for any musician regardless of skill level. My class worked with Dr. Benward on this book–we were his test class. Although this may not be the best book for everyone, it is a very comprehensive text that thelry the instructor’s input.

As Benward told us, if we were to teach theory we must work towards the student’s understanding of the concepts and not allow the text to work magic. Hence, ij must illustrate and re-inforce the principles with our examples and experiences.
